Melanie Penelope is an alternative singer/songwriter and producer with a splash of indie pop and twang from Huntersville, NC, USA. She’s known for her raw, emotive vocals, wistful, sometimes humorous lyrics, and making her own videos. She doesn’t autotune her voice.

Penelope is also an actress and comedy creator whose work can be found on Amazon Prime and Tubi. She was a winner in Rizzle’s songwriting contest and reached 300k followers as Waffle Chick before the app was rebranded for AI video editing. She’s had semi-viral moments on YouTube and the Ultimate Guitar app and has performed live sketch comedy and parody songs at venues as notable as DC Improv. And she was in a vacuum commercial one time.

 

First garnering attention on YouTube as “thespartanchannel” for her cover of Demons by Imagine Dragons and quirky personality contrasted with a soulful voice, Melanie went on to book coffee house acoustic nights at App State. She released several live original songs, dozens of covers, and a few dorky raps on social media as Melanie Lech, Copperhead Curls, and Lil’ Stinker. After a hiatus to pursue acting, comedy, and build her multimedia businesses (the highlight of which was being flown to Missouri to play the love interest in a sci-fi comedy feature), she ultimately came back to music with her debut single “Happy Birthday” in 2024.

Melanie Penelope typically makes her music/lyric videos and cover art with microbudgets (or no moolah at all) and friends. She says she can’t take much seriously in real life, so it all comes out in songs.
